1. Leave Your Worries Behind

This sounds simple but it is usually the hardest thing. When you arrive at the airport before departure, be sure to calm your mind and body by leaving all your worries at the airport and not bring them on the plane with you.

One helpful technique is to allow your mind to settle on any of the worries you have in your everyday world. Once you have distinguished your nagging issues, make a mental list of them.  Then, as you go through the security check in, consciously leave those thoughts outside the gate. If you still have thoughts lingering in your mind while waiting for departure, make another mental list then consciously leave that mental list behind before you board the plane. When the plane door closes, it locks out any negative or heavy thoughts that could put a damper on your vacation.

2. Breathe Deeply

This can also be a difficult task. It is surprising how little we focus on our breathing even though it plays such an integral role in controlling our stress levels and emotions. As you settle into your seat on the plane, take long deep breathes and picture yourself relaxing on the beach. This is a sure fire way to bring your mind and body closer to a state of peacefulness.

3. Notice You Surroundings

When you arrive at your destination, engage your mind by noticing all the little things around you. Notice the sound of the birds, the types of vegetation, the smell of the air. Bringing all of these sensations together will help your mind and body bring themselves to live in the moment.

4. Listen to Your Favourite Music

While reclining on the beach, drop into a deep state of relaxation with your favourite music. Before your trip, remember to load up you iPod with all your favourite songs and some new tunes that will be the themes of your travels. Be sure to indulge in the local music to get the true vibe of the local culture.

5. Dance Like No One’s Watching

Especially if you are in the Caribbean, let the music of the islands move you. You are on vacation, no one is judging you. Feel the music and let your hips loose. If you aren’t a good dancer, who cares! Have some fun and dance like no one is watching!
