Have you ever wondered how many bottles of rum you are allowed to bring back from the Caribbean? Or how many cigars you are allowed to bring back from Cuba? Or even how much clothing you are allowed to buy while you are travelling in the United States?

Look no further, consult this list before bringing goods back into Canada based on the length of your absence:

24 to 48 Hours

–          $50 worth of goods

–          no alcohol or tobacco

48 Hours to 7 Days

–          $400 worth of goods

–          200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, and 200g of loose tobacco

–          1.14L of spirits, 24 cans/bottles of beer, or 1.5 litres of wine

7 Days or More

–          $750 worth of goods

–          200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, and 200g of loose tobacco

–          1.14L of spirits, 24 cans/bottles of beer, or 1.5 litres of wine

Be sure to consult Canada Border Services Agency’s website if you are unsure of the goods you are bringing back into the country. It is always better to have peace of mind than to be dealing with customs upon your return home. The CBSA website has detailed information on customs limits and applicable duty charges.
