Lake George in Upstate New York is a Great Rural Getaway

One of the most popular places to stay in the Adirondack region of New York is Lake George. It is a famous area, home to many historic sites, and one of the most tourist friendly places in the region. The village of Lake George has many of the most popular sites within walking distance from most of the hotels and motels. All of the other popular destinations are just a short drive away. The lake is also within walking distance, and it has a nice beach that can be crowded in the summer. Other beaches are available along the lake, but you will have to drive to reach them.

When you are in the area, make sure that you stop by Fort William Henry, a fortification from the Revolutionary War. This fort also features in the Fennimore Cooper novel Last of the Mohicans. The lake is only a short walk from the fort, and you will be able to take cruises out onto the lake for dinner and dancing. The village has a plethora of great restaurants as well. No matter what your taste buds might be craving, you will find something that satisfies them in the village.

Just a short drive from Lake George is Six Flags Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom. These theme parks are relatively new. Decades ago, the theme park was called Storytown, which had a Mother Goose theme and expanded to include a western and jungle theme. This later became the Great Escape and featured rides for older kids and adults. Now that it is under the Six Flags banner, it has even better rides and attractions.

The village is a great place to stay, but you might also want to venture out and find some places to go hiking in the area. You can find some great mountains that have easy trails and they are just a short distance away.
