Niagara Falls Festival of Lights

Every year Niagara Falls hosts a multitude of events in celebration of Christmas and New Years. This is a great opportunity for families to get outside and explore one of the largest waterfalls in the world and all the area has to offer. Close to home, the Falls really allows you to get away, even if for a day, without having to pay for a full vacation. Create some family memories that your children will remember for years to come.

One of the traditions of the falls is the Winter Festival of Lights, which runs from November 3rd until January 31st. I remember going to see these lights as a child and every year my family makes a trip to the falls to enjoy this display and gaze upon one of the largest natural attractions in Canada. The Winter Festival of Lights stretches over 6 km and has over 3 million lights illuminating moving pictures of winter scenes and Disney characters that the kids will recognize from their favourite films. Also, after dark the falls are lit up with all the colours of the rainbow that really adds the wow affect to the 2,271,247 liters of water that cascade over the edge every second.

On November 28th the TD Rink at the Brink will be open. This open air skating rink overlooks both the American and Horseshoe Falls creating a Winter Wonderland atmosphere. This rink will be open until February 28th. Admission is $7 and children under 6 are free with a paying adult. Don’t have ice skates? Rentals are available for only $5. Stay for Fireworks over the Falls, available on certain dates, to really have that memorable experience.

See the Wizard of Oz production on November 23rd at the Firehall theatre or enjoy a performance of Peter Pan on December 3rd at the Scotiabank Convention Center. Have a medieval dining experience at the King Henry VIII Feast on the November 24th, December 8th and 15th. Enjoy music with the Christmas Concert Series with performers Bobby Vinton, Shawn Klush, world renowned Elvis impersonator, or The Oak Ridge Boys.

On November 29th Red Bull starts its 3 day Crashed Ice Niagara Falls sporting event. This event is free and has skaters racing on a refrigerated ice track that runs from the base of the Skylon Tower down Murray Hill ending at the Edgewater Restaurant steps away from the Falls.

Finish off the year with a Rockin New Years Eve at the Americana Conference Resort. This concert has a lineup of celebrity tributes: Cody Simpson, Selena Gomez, One Direction, Carly Ray Jepsen, Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber! You can also buy tickets to the New Years Eve Gala for an evening of comedy and illusion with Greg Frewin who has won the title Internation Grand Champion of Magic and 2009 Magician of the Year.
