Top 5 Things to Do at the Cottage

Posted on: August 2nd, 2012 by paul

It’s the long weekend and many Canadians are taking advantage of the extra day off by doing some traveling. Many are either flying down south for an all-inclusive vacation, or heading north to the cottage. For those who are heading north, check out this list of great activities to do while you are at the cottage:

1. Water Ski/Wake Board

There is no better way to beat the heat than by getting out on the water. For those of you who enjoy adventure, wake boarding or water skiing will satisfy the urge to go fast and include a bit of danger. For those of you who are trying it for the first time, don’t worry if you are unsuccessful at getting out of the water on your first try, it can be very difficult.

2. Camp Fire

Nothing brings you in touch with the north quite as much as a night by the camp fire. Sit back and enjoy your company while staring up at the sky full of stars that you just can’t see when you are stuck in the big city. If you are lucky enough to have a guitar player in the group, camp fire sing-a-longs will take you into the wee hours of the morning.

3. Beach Sports

Canadians are getting more creative when it comes to beach sports. From washers to bean bags to bocce ball, there can be an endless range of activities to do on the beach. If you are with a big group, why not try an old fashioned swimming race, after all, the Olympics are going on right now.

4. Frisbee Golf

Get your creative juices flowing with a game of Frisbee golf. Turn your cottage property into a golf course by creating your own holes. Wind the course through the water to cool yourself down during the round.

5. Cliff Jumping

Find some tried and true local cliffs that are surrounded by deep water to ensure safety for everyone. The best cliffs have different levels so all members of the group can jump comfortable.

Try out these five great activities this weekend and you will be sure to have a weekend to remember. As for those of you taking advantage of a last minute deal down south, try some of these beach activities between the buffet and the swim up bar.
