Need to Know
Be prepared to haggle! The vendors surrounding your resort will try to get as much money out of you as possible. Consult other hotel guests regarding goods you would like to purchase and try to get a better deal than them. Be aware of fakes. Vendors will try to pass off high quality fakes of cigars, sunglasses, and other merchandise. You can tell a fake by poor quality boxing and labeling. Most resorts will allow legitimate cigar dealers to sell their wares on site one day each week. These cigars may be slightly more expensive but it’s more likely that you will get a quality product.
Tourist Tax
The Dominican Republic is home to the $20 USD departure tax that MUST be paid in cash. Be sure to save American funds because Canadian dollars will not be accepted.
