Last Minute Vacations To Sosua

Packages to Sosua

Quick Facts

Located 24 km east of Puerto Plata and 6 km from the Puerto Plata Airport, Sosua is a small town in the Puerto Plata province of Dominican Republic. The town is divided into 3 sectors: El Batey,
Sosua Abajo and Los Charamicos. El Batey is the main sector where many tourists stay. The town was founded in 1940 by European Jews seeking refuge from Hitler. Today, the Jewish families still living in Sosua are involved in the dairy and smoked-meat industries.  Sosua is quickly becoming Puerto Plata’s rival town as tourists flock to its soft white sand beach which is protected by coral reefs. Another competing factor is that the resorts have a well deserved reputation and are very similar (in quality) to Puerto Plata. The white sand beaches are so beautiful that neighboring resort towns offer day trips to Sosua. So, if you are looking for a relaxing vacation, look no further than Sosua.

Getting There & Other Transportation

Upon your flight’s arrival at the Puerto Plata Airport, if your transportation is not pre-arranged by your resort, your best bet is to take a taxi into town. Taxis also wait for passengers in the center of town at the calles Pedro Clisante and Arzeno intersection. Make sure you discuss fare before entering the taxi.

Another way to get around the island is by way of motoconcho. These three-wheeled motorized conveyances are like low-rent versions of taxis. Keep in mind that the drivers of these motoconchos are generally reckless. This mode of transportation is not for the faint of heart.
