Jamaica has been known for many things in its time: Singer/Songwriter Bob Marley, the rising of Reggae music, Blue Mountain Coffee, it’s beautiful exotic landscape and the yummiest jerk chicken. This delicious dish comes from a combination of spices and cooking techniques. If you’re planning on taking a vacation to Jamaica anytime soon prepare yourself for some seriously tasty jerk.
Upon your arrival you will see jerk stand littering every corner and on every menu. Which raises the question, “Who does it best?” Jamaican restaurants have been fighting over the title of ‘Best Jerk’ for decades and the battle doesn’t end here. Visitor’s have put in plenty of opinions on websites such as TripAdvisor and Frommers leaving the rest of us sort through them and make a decision.
In Kingston, Jamaica there is a small war over who has the best jerk in Jamaica. Scotchies Jerk Center has been preparing some of the best jerk in Northern Jamaica. Their newest restaurant on Chelsea Avenue, opened back in 2011, is competing with Chelsea Jerk Center across the road.
Both restaurants have some great reviews of having the best jerk and make their jerk on a fire grill. It all comes down to the seasoning and that’s a matter of taste. So we’ll leave it up to you.
