Haunted Travel Destinations in the United States

The United States has a number of reportedly haunted locations, and nothing sets the Halloween mood like some good old-fashioned ghost stories. If tales of restless spirits thrill you as much as they do many people, you might want to take a haunted vacation this year. You will find a number of hotels and inns that claim to have their own resident ghosts, and it can be a great, albeit spooky, place to stay on your next vacation. The following are some of the most popular and well-known haunted places where you can visit and book a room.

The Queen Mary, located in Long Beach, California has a long history and many claim the ship to be haunted. The ghost of a little girl supposedly haunts the pool area, and the tortured spirit of a sailor lingers around corridor 13. You can take guided tours of the ship, and you can walk around many of the areas on your own. The rooms on the ship are smaller than you might be accustomed to, but they are quaint and give you the feeling of being at sea.

The Stanley Hotel, in Colorado, also has its share of haunted happenings. Many of the ghostly occurrences happen in room 418, but most of the other areas of the hotel have their own stories and legends. Stephen King, famed novelist, even wrote a portion of his novel The Shining at the hotel. That novel contains a hotel called The Overlook, which is based on The Stanley! He stayed in room 217, and if you are a fan, you might want to request that room.

Another famous haunted spot is the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast, located in Fall River Massachusetts. This house is where someone murdered Mr. and Mrs. Borden in 1892, and even though many people thought it was Lizzie, she was never convicted of the crime. You can now stay in one of the rooms at the inn.
