There are many questions about traveling while pregnant. Should I fly while pregnant? Should I get immunizations? Which seats are most comfortable? Though it seems like it may just be easier to stay at home while pregnant, it is not the only choice. Here are some tips and idea to consider when traveling while pregnant.
Flying While Pregnant
If you plan to fly, be sure to first discuss it with your doctor. Unless there are any problems, if you’re in the early stages (when miscarriages are more likely), or if you’re in the late stages (when you may be more likely to go into labor) your doctor will allow you to go. Check airline regulations regarding pregnancy before your book your flight because some airlines do not allow you to fly after a certain point. (more…)

Depending on where you are traveling, renting a car can be a wise choice and may be the fastest and easiest way to get around. If it seems like a wise choice make sure you have done your research first. Are you legal to drive in the country you’re visiting? Which side of the road do they drive on? Is it safe for foreigners to drive? What are the rates like at the airport and at other rental sites around town? What is the price of gas?

When traveling, it may be a good idea (and in some cases a necessity) to take a vaccination to prevent sickness. Traveling puts us at risk for a number of illnesses that can be prevented by vaccination. As we get older, our risk of getting certain diseases increases and your vaccine-acquired protection against many illnesses may decrease.

One of the easiest mistakes to avoid when traveling is missing a flight. Everyone knows that you have to leave you home early and arrive at the airport early to avoid stress, frustration, and panic. After all, we can all agree that your heart starts beating faster when you arrive at the airport only to find a huge line at your check-in desk. What makes matters worse is that when there are a lot of people checking in, a lot of people are headed to security promptly after checking in. Cue the high blood pressure.
